The Heat Is On!

Ah, summer is here. Or at least the heat of summer is here. Break out the sunscreen, watermelon and baby floaties. We did! EC and I had a very eventful week which included swimming for the first time (him, not me), lots of walks, a trip to C Arrow Stables, kisses from goats, an unplanned trip to the pediatrician, visits from Grandma and Nana, and the zoo (again). Unfortunately I brought the camera for only one of those fun outings. EC was a trooper through all of this, despite having a sinus infection, seasonal allergies and two more teeth coming in (yep, that'll be 6 in case you're keeping count). Oh yeah, did I mention he is sleeping through the entire night now? Finally! And all along I thought it'd never happen I knew he could do it. Knock on wood.

Here are some photos from our week:

He didn't flinch when this hungry goat nuzzled his hand...

...then happily welcomed a curious one who wanted a closer look...

...and firmly stood his ground as this one shared a big ol' smooch to the forehead!

Miniature pony rides, but not miniature enough. Maybe next year.

My boys.

I shudder at the thought...

EC was determined to snag Molly (our furball cat) and followed her right up, under and through the coffee table. No luck though, she's too quick.

Babies Don't Keep

Cleaning.  Ugh.  From the time it takes to set the vacuum cleaner back in the closet to the moment I shut the dishwasher door, our house is in shambles, again.  From tiny little socks to sippy cups to talking books, I just can't keep up!  Can anyone relate?  So, when I stumbled upon this poem it put a smile on my face.  Dishes can wait, babies can't.

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Moving right along

Today is supposed to be a "Not Me! Monday" (see orange box on right sidebar) but I just couldn't bring myself to dish out all the things I did not do this past week. So instead, I've decided to share some new milestones of EC's and some miscellaneous photos I've snapped over the past couple weeks.

Now that EC is a master crawler, he is all over the place!  Now I understand all those mommies to who told me not to rush him into crawling.  He has started to pull himself up to standing while hanging on to furniture, so I'm prepared for a couple bumps and bruises.  Nick jokingly asks where EC's helmet is because he's slipped and bonked his dome a few times while scooting across the hardwood floor.  These slips usually result in a few tears but nothing a few kisses can't cure.

EC has also become a pro-pointer.  Ducks, airplanes, bears (we went to the zoo), ceiling fans, dogs and cats have all had a little chubby finger pointed at them so far.  See how exciting our lives have been?

EC and I met up with a friend and her little boy for a trip to the zoo last week.  I don't know about you, but I see three monkeys in this picture (or maybe that's a gorilla...?)!

This is the first zoo trip in which EC paid any attention to the animals.

"Num, num, num, num."  He loves strawberries, just like his mom!

In case you can't quite make it out, his shirt does say, "I love mommy".   He must have picked it out all by himself that morning.

Peek-a-boo!

Sweet son soaking up sunlight while sitting securely on dad's strong shoulders.  (Alliteration...I haven't done that since the 4th grade!)

Impromptu family photo on a beautiful day.

What a great looking group of people!  It's no surprise they're all related.  We have EC, Nick, Beth (my MIL) and Kate (my SIL).  They were on their way to Beth's Retirement Dinner, hoooraaay for Beth!!

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Every Day is Mother's Day

I hope all you Mom's had a Happy Mother's Day this past Sunday. I did! There's nothing like waking up to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers and breakfast on a tray waiting for you. I think you'll agree the flowers were pretty, see?

So, after having my first Mother's Day I decided to post some snapshots over the past 10 months of my two boys that made this day possible. Without these two I'd be lost.

Lastly, I'd like to send a big HUG to my very own Mom. She claims as a child I never really had an interest in baby dolls, playing house or Barbies but somewhere along the line I learned a great deal about how to be a loving mom and I owe that to her! In addition to my mom, another big HUG goes out to Nick's Mom. She's got a huge heart.  I'm a lucky person to have TWO special Mom's in my life.

Busy week!

We had another "first" today, my little towhead and I headed on over to the hair salon and enjoyed his first haircut. I'm sure I was much more excited than he was! Here is the before picture...his hair was nearly as unmanageable as mine. Ok, not quite but it was getting there.

And here he is just after his cut, sitting in the froggie kiddie chair watching Scooby Doo. He looked so grown up! After I got home, Nick saw this picture and said the stylist is Nana's long time stylist. What a small world!

Finally, the result. He looks so handsome! Maybe now he won't be called a girl as often, because wearing a blue and red basketball outfit obviously wasn't enough. Hmmmm.

Why eat at the kitchen table when you can take your kitchen table outdoors? All 3 of us spent the majority of the day outside because it was absolutely gorgeous! EC's dinnertime snuck up on me while we were out so we just brought it all outside. After he went to bed, Nick and I followed suit and dined under the birch tree.

Last week we had a house guest for a night, my friend Saleena. I call her Crazy "Aunt" Saleena because she is, well, crazy. It's all in fun though and EC adores her.
Lastly, this picture just cracks me up:

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This is my fist official "Not Me! Monday!" post. For those of you don't know what it's about, you should visit MckMama at www.mycharmingkids.net and click on HER button for Not Me! Monday! Anyway, here are some things I most definitely did NOT do this week:

I did NOT put earplugs in last night to drown out my husband's snoring and did NOT accidentally let my 10 month old cry because I couldn't hear him. My husband did NOT wake me up. No really, he didn't.

I certainly did NOT go out with some girlfriends this weekend for a couple cocktails and did NOT even for one minute miss my two boys at home.

I was NOT at all proud of my little one (EC) at his regular checkup today with the dr. when he happily smiled as his toe got pricked for blood. I did NOT once tell him he was their best patient ever! And when the doc asked how long he'd been crawling, I most assuredly did NOT tell her "quite a while now"" knowing full well it has been 7 days.

I do NOT ever miss my pre-pregnancy stomach, no matter what people tell me.  And you can be sure I did NOT eat the last 2 brownies leftover from the other day to boot!

I did NOT forget to change EC's diaper after 7 hours. It did NOT feel about 5 pounds heavy, and I also did NOT even consider letting him toss it around for a bit on the floor, nor did I launch it into the kitchen from a seated position on the living room floor. Nuh-uh, not me.

That was NOT at all fun and I will NOT be participating next Monday, and lastly, I do NOT want to win that cute little necklace for publishing this post. Not me.
