Reading

EC gets to play in his room while I get myself together in the mornings and the other day I noticed how quiet he was. Usually that isn't a good thing, he's generally getting into something he shouldn't be. This time I peeked in at him and he was reading an Elmo book about puppies. He didn't see me so I watched him for a few minutes, he was saying "puppyyyyyyyy, Elmo, woof, woof". I ran downstairs to grab my camera but he heard me, so the video below is after he'd been caught. Not quite the same effect as spying on him but it's still cute if you ask me.

Oh, and the no pants thing with shoes? I have no idea how that happened. He was on Daddy's watch when I found him that way.

He makes me laugh!

Kids just crack me up, not just mine, but all of them. They say and do the funniest things and usually have no idea how entertaining they actually are.

A little boy about 8 or 9 walked past me at the Y the other day, he stopped, turned around and came back. He had a funny look on his face and said, "You pregnant?" I said I was, thinking maybe his mom was too or something and he was going to tell me about it. Instead he goes, "When will you have your baby then?" I said around June 8th and he replied, "Oh, so you have a year left? That's a long time, good luck!" and he turned around and walked off. It just cracked me up.

Nick and I find ourselves just staring at EC while he's in one of his crazy moods (which is often) and wonder where he gets this humor at such a young age. He is constantly doing random things and I find myself laughing more and more with him, and lots of times at him. Oh, and his favorite show on TV is America's Funniest Home Videos, which is fitting. He calls it the "Uh-Oh Show" and he always laughs at the appropriate times.

Here are a handful of little things that have put a smile on my face recently:

1. EC pulled up my shirt to get a good look at my (growing) belly, and then put his eye right up to my belly button, waved and said, "hiiiiii bruh-er". Right after that he asked me to "open" my belly.

2. EC has a thing for Nick's glasses. The other day he was hanging out in our bed while I was in the bathroom putting my face on, I poked my head out to check on him and he was propped up against Nick's pillow, watching Tom and Jerry, with the remote in his hand and Nick's glasses perfectly placed on his little head.

3. EC has begun to say a few phrases that are just too cute to hear. He started with "what is that thing?" (kinda strung together into one word), and then later, "what's that noise", "here you go", "there it is" "cop car get bad guys" and "again, again please". His little voice is just that...little, so to hear him chatting is lots of fun even when I don't understand one word he just said.

4. He loooooves to have his Daddy shave his face with his toy razor while taking a bath. Nick really takes his time with this and acts like he's concentrating on giving him a good shave, EC just sits so still and stares lovingly into his Daddy's eyes.

5. When giving EC his medicine or vitamins, he insists we give it to Mr. Frog, Mr. Bear, Brown Bear, Molly our cat, his toy horse, Mommy, Daddy, Mr. Frog again, and Mommy again before it's his time to take it. Talk about time consuming!

6. He sings to the baby while patting my belly.

7. He tells us "poo-poo" and points at his bottom, so I take him to the bathroom where he sits on his potty and then just toots and says "all done". Too much information?

8. He is the biggest copy-cat I know. Everything we do, he does. Chopsticks included.

9. His imagination is colorful. We play pretend all the time, we cook, clean, feed stuffed animals, put on kiddie deodorant, drive, go "night night", lift weights, and play zoo animals. He could do this for hours on end.

Seriously though, our kid is a funny little human. As with all little kids, if you just watch them they will simply make you laugh again and again.

Mac-n-Chz Squeeze

I recently read that letting toddlers have fun with mealtime was important and that squeezing, squishing, smearing, smooshing, smashing, slopping, and scrunching their food should be (mostly) tolerated. So I've been a little more tolerant about EC's eating habits. The video was taken right before his bath so I didn't mind that he got messy, but it got even worse after I shut off the camera.

The PERFECT hiding spot!

What exactly lures little ones to kitchen cabinets? EC thinks our cabinets are big toy chests, he's constantly dragging out all my pans, bowls, pots, lids and then goes for a whisk and plastic spoons so he can whip up a dish or two. His best meal is soup, he makes Nick and I "taste" it again and again.

After he nearly emptied my entire pan cabinet he took advantage of the space and crawled in with Mr. Frog. He said, "close, close, close" until I shut the door for him and then sat patiently until I had time to locate him. We did this about 1,000 times.

A box and some imagination...

Sometimes it's the free things in life that bring us the most enjoyment! EC has a new house (obviously decorated by the only female in the house!) and he's been enjoying it for 3 days now. Nick already has plans for his next house. Skulls, crossbones, portholes...apparently my flower boxes just don't cut it.

He noticed the leaky roof!

Since we've taken these pictures, EC has done a little remodeling. He's added a keyhole, a skylight, a mail slot and lots of crayon squiggles. Oh, and a few roommates have moved in. Mr. Frog, White Bear, Brown Bear and the cat, Molly. Seems like a tight squeeze for a home with only 4 sq. feet.

Is that weird, or is it just me?

This picture may not look weird to you. Cute kid, eating turkey and crackers (he threw the cheese).

Well...

...if you look a little closer, you might notice that he's literally taken 1-2 bites from each piece then moved on to another.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought it was a little weird. Well, at least he tried everything.

Cause he's cool like that

Give a kid a pair of sunglasses and they instantly think they're cool.

Yep, he's my son!

If it's sweet, I like it and apparently so does EC. He ate more angel food cake batter than he did cake, which worked out in my favor. I'm a fan of the cake.

Notice how his eyes are closed in every picture, he was truly savoring every lick. And yes, these pictures were take shortly before bedtime, I like to sugar him up for a good night's rest.

Num, num, num....

After he got all sugared up, I walked into the living room to discover this....

He decided to dump all his toys out of his toy tote and replace them.

Who's at our front door?

We've never had ducks in our yard, let alone ducks walk up to our front door! I had just put EC in his pj's when Nick told us to come out front, so we grabbed some bread and fed ducks in our front yard. They didn't stay long though, EC ran them off as he was trying to get a closer look. Or maybe it was the scary dinosaurs on his jammies.

Using a fork

EC has been using a fork and spoon for quite some time now, not that he's got it nailed yet, but he's making progress each day. I mean, can you eat spaghetti with a fork without making a mess?

I'm pretty sure he's right-handed but he seems to prefer using his left when using silverware. He must have gotten that from his Nana or his cousins Dakota or Andrew (they're all lefties)!

Easter Day

Nick, EC and I enjoyed a beautiful Easter Day spent mainly outdoors. Our family members that live close traveled out of town so we didn't do a big dinner or anything, but we did have a great day doing a whole lot of nothing!

I'll even admit that I did, in fact, buy everything to make a small Easter dinner but by the time it came to put it together I decided I didn't want to. Fortunately, Nick had no problems with my decision (but that's a whole different subject) so we went to a restaurant and had someone else cook our dinner.

EC was super excited to see the Easter Bunny at Jimmy's Egg, he even gave the bunny a hug immediately. When it came time for a picture, though, he clammed up as usual. Maybe it was because the bunny costume was from the 60's!?

Pink lemonade and a bunny straw, he was so pleased.

Just hanging out in the backyard.

Good penmanship for being 21 months old, don't you think? Who's Alec?

Awwwww, my 2 favorite guys hugging.

Just looking cute.

HAPPY EASTER!

Easter with EC's friends

The Mom and Tot group EC and I belong to hosted an Easter egg hunt and picnic at one of the mom's homes last week. This was the first year he has hunted for eggs and while his attention span was short, he did manage to find all 12 of his eggs! He had a great time with his little friends and especially enjoyed all the outdoor toys.

A group shot of some of the kiddos in the Mom and Tot group.

All the kids were so well behaved, but there was no way to get them all to look at the same camera!
