A Rarity

Timers...EC is obsessed with setting a timer for everything. Bathroom break, lunch, nap time, bath time, you name it, he wants the timer set. He's also not into posing for pictures, which stinks for me. So today I asked if we could set the camera timer and he was totally on board.  Hooray!

We goofed around and took about 15 pictures of ourselves. He was loving it and I managed to get a couple cute pictures of us in front of our bare naked Christmas tree.

Our Dinner Conversation

My words are highlighted in red, Alec's are in blue.
Ok Mom, I'm really ready for some of that applesauce. It goes right here in my mouth, k?
Alrighty and I promise it'll be better than the porridge you had last time.

What do ya think? Pretty good stuff, eh? Num, num, num.
Enough with the sound effects, Mom.
Sorry, won't happen aga....

Just a sec, I gotta take this call.
Errr, ok.
*Awkward silence on my end*

Sorry 'bout that. It was my assistant. She said I was overdue for my nap, and I love my naps, you know.
I'm not sure if I should be more worried that you have an assistant or that you talk to her on your hand phone.
Alec? Hello? Alec?

WAKE UP Butterball!!
Shhhhhhhh, Geez! Can't anyone get some sleep around here?
Oh, don't you dare get me started on that, mister.
And who's calling who Butterball?

Ok, back on track. Here comes the airplane, open up....vroooooommmm, vvvvrrooom, vroooooom!

Maaa, stop! You are so embarrassing. I can't take you anywhere.

"The Look"

The kid has got it down, he gets it from his dad. He's not even 6 months old, yet he has "the look" perfected.

Now that's much better.

Happy Eyes. Happy Mouth. Happy Kid.

Long before I was pregnant with EC I knew that being a mom was something I wanted, and something I would surely be good at. And now that I have two happy, healthy, loving little boys I feel even stronger about those things. However, I can't help but wonder what I'd do if I didn't have them anymore, you know, if God decided to take them away. You're right, what kind of person thinks those kind of thoughts? I can't help it, I hear about this tragedy happening every single day and cannot imagine what those parents go through. I simply cannot.

I realize I have zero poetic skills so bear with me. The other night I just couldn't sleep to save my life. These dark thoughts kept creeping into my brain and no amount of wishing them away was going to help. So I rolled out of bed (at 3:30am if you must know, shortly after Alec's 2am feeding) and opened my computer to write down the things I love most about my boys.

Now it's not always rainbows and sunshine here, more times than not someone is crying, yelling, being told no or throwing a fit but it's during those times that I need to step back and realize what I have and some parents no longer have: two boys I cannot live without.
Without Question

Without question
without doubt
I never ever
want to be without

Without the laughter
the giggles and cries
the midnight wakings
and lullaby's

Without the little boy
who knows way too much
knows exactly what to say
with words, kisses and such

Without the tickles
the yells and screams
or the silly little games
only young boys can dream

Without the dirty little hands
the tiny little toes
the big bear hugs
I can't live without those

Without the soft curly hair
the smell of freshly bathed skin
the chunky little belly
and the adorable double chin

Without the tiny voice
that softly says my name
"Mama, play with me
Just one more game?"

Without you
I'm afraid to say
I wouldn't want to live
even one more day

Seeing Double

 EC 6 months

Alec 5 months

What's even funnier about these pictures is the fact that I didn't even try to make them look alike! Same exact angle, same exact background, nearly identical smiles. Just need an outfit change and some tulips and I would have been totally weirded out.

First Food

I had intentions of waiting until Alec was exactly 6 months old before introducing food, however, he can't keep his eyes off my food. I felt horrible with each bite, as he sat there salivating, wondering when he'd get some yummy goodness. I even had to hide a couple snacks from him, his little eyes just screamed, "I WAAANT THAT, GIMME GIMME!"

Needless to say, I think he was a bit let down with is first real bite. Poor guy had his hopes up, I'm pretty sure he was thinking of eating fried mozzarella sticks, pizza, brownies, cinnamon rolls. But nope. I came at him with what looked like porridge. Plain ol' run of the mill, porridge. There was no excitement in this first meal for him, but I told him it'd get better. Be patient little man, you gonna love tomorrow's meal...green beans!

First of Many

Guess what popped up at our house? Alec's first tooth! He's adamant that I not get a picture, so you'll just have to take my word. Or sick your finger in his mouth. Whichever.

Since typing this post a few minutes ago, Alec has sprung another tooth! No wonder he drools one gallon per minute.

5 Months

Here we go again, another month has gone by and I wonder how it went so fast. Sigh...

Alec has really blossomed this past month, he's become quite curious about the world around him. He, of course, still enjoys watching EC's every single move (I'm in trouble in a few years!) and has also mellowed out tremendously. The only time he seems to fuss is if he's hungry or tired, other than that, he's made friends with his car seat and has come to terms with playing alone while I grab a shower or make dinner or clean my house for the umpteenth time.

He goes to Kid's Day Out every Wednesday for a few hours and seems to really enjoy the ladies there.  There is one lady in particular who cuddles and feeds him every week, they seem to have created a little bond and it's sweet.

Alec is a no nonsense type baby, he smiles frequently but doesn't let out many giggles (yet). He likes to hold rattles, reach for toys and has managed to roll over both ways (only one time each though). He still dislikes tummy time and barely tolerates bath time. He is a massive drooler and wears a bib all the time just to keep his clothes dry. No teeth yet. A lot of his hair has fallen out but I finally see some new growth so eventually he'll have a full head of curly dark hair!

His nighttime sleep routine has been all over the place for the past several weeks, and I'm blaming it on his irritated skin that has got to itch all the time. The little baby who used to consistently sleep in 6-8 hour stretches now sleeps in 3-4 hour stretches.  But we'll get over this hump just as we did when EC was a baby and eventually I'll hardly remember feeling like a zombie every day. Hopefully.

Happy 5 Month Birthday, Alec!

Trick or Treat

So here's the look I was going for...

...and this is what I ended up with. Ugh. Oh well, the boys had no idea!
You can't tell from the picture, but Bert's hair is sprayed black and he has an orange nose.
He wouldn't hold still, sorry it's blurry. The boys wore name tags since most people had no idea who they were.
After practicing his "Trick or Treat" at a few homes, EC ditched the wagon and went to the doors himself.
Getting some good loot!
Eating some of his treats!
Alec's first of MANY Halloween's!

EC is already asking to go trick or treating again.  I don't think he knew what was in store for him until he saw all the other kids dressed up and walking on the streets with bags of goodies. So he's pretty pumped up about next year...and believe it or not, he's already forgotten about his bag of candy (good thing, because Nick and I haven't!).
