Just a note to say.....

HI!

We're still around, just haven't had a lot of time to spend on the blog. Lots going on with the upcoming move and all, so once we get settled I'll get back to work posting some updates.  For now though, we're staying busy inside mostly (with the exception of a couple days ago when the temperature hit 72!).

A New Home: Coming Soon

Loads of changes are in our future right now and it's exciting. After being on the market for 3 months, we accepted an offer on our current home so the next step was to find a new home in Olathe immediately.

Nick and I made 2 trips. The first trip resulted in an offer on a home that was beat out by another buyer's offer (we liked the house, didn't love the house), and the second trip resulted in an offer that was accepted immediately despite a competing offer! And we love this house. So looking back, it was a blessing in disguise that we didn't get the first house.  I'm now a firm believer that things do happen for a reason.

Nick and I have been married for 3 years and so far we've had just as many homes together. Ugh! I'm hoping that this next move will be our last for many years. Moving 2 people is one thing, but moving 4 is a whole new ball game.

Our first home (started from scratch and had it built)
2004-2007

Second (current) home
2007-2011

15209 West 153rd Street, Olathe KS
Third home
February 2011-???

EC is terribly excited about the new house and likes to look at the pictures I took. He says it's in "Kansas City" and he wants to know if he'll have new friends there. It makes me sad to know that he'll never really remember his current home, the home we brought 2 newborns into, but I know we'll make a million more memories in our new house!

Don't tell him he's too big

I told him he was too big for the bouncy seat, I guess I was wrong. But it sure was fun watching him struggle to get out!

Caught Red Handed

His only job was to put the marshmallows into the pan.
My mom came over the other day since Nick was out of town (he was driving out of state buying a fuel efficient car to drive between KC and Wichita once we move. Wanna guess what he came back with??)
Anyway, she brought stuff to make popcorn balls, YUM! EC ate 4 of them in 2 days, so we'll have to make more soon. He had a great time with his Grandma even though he had to share her with Alec.

Oh, and speaking of moving. Most who read our blog already know that we put our house on the market in October, hoping to sell and be in the Kansas City area by March. As luck would have it (or maybe the buried St. Joseph statue in our backyard had something to do with it), we received and eventually accepted an offer last week. So now it's off to KC to search for our future home. Exciting, scary, nerve-wracking all at the same time!

The car Nick came home with?
Mini Cooper
It's mini alright. *rolling eyes*

It's Snow Cold

It snowed, so...

We bundled.
We played.
We got cold.

 We had a snowball fight.
We pulled the sled.
We froze our tails off.
We tracked snow in our house.
We did it again the next day.

Just one of many blogs I love

Yes, I'll admit it.  I'm a blog stalker, and proud of it!  I really do enjoy keeping up with friends and their families that I don't see on a daily basis. Getting a small peep into someone else's life is fun.  It's sorta like reading a book for a few minutes, you can forget about the million and a half things you've got in your life and just read about someone else's life.

Anyway, one of the blogs I stumbled upon many, many months ago is called The Extraordinary Ordinary. I do not know the author, Heather, outside of the blogging world, but she writes beautifully and it's easy to feel like you've known her for years, she's very down to earth.  She shares her life struggles of being a mother to 2 active little boys, her recent decision to come out of the "I'm an alcoholic" closet,  her road to recovery and she's also great (self-taught?) photographer.

In one of her recent posts, she talks about how her and her husband finally made the decision to take away their 3 1/2 yr old's pacifier (no, she makes no excuses for continuing to give her nearly 4 yr old a paci!) and how in parenting, you just have to roll with the punches.  She gives this bit of advice to new parents (which is soooooo true!):

"Roll with it, friends. Almost everything in the early years works itself out in its own time, it really does. The sleep schedule, the feeding schedule, the potty training and the pacifying. These are simply small things when you look back. So trust your heart-gut rather than the books or even the experts and do your best to...well, relax."

That paragraph is so, so true.

She's a riot and if you'd like to laugh one of those good belly laughs, look at cute pictures of kids, and relate to a mother who is stretched too thin like the rest of us then hop on over and visit one of the many blogs I love to read.

EC's first home haircut

We're super lucky that EC actually enjoys getting his hair cut, and in the past I've always taken him somewhere to have it done, but honestly it's soooo expensive!  It seriously takes less than 10 minutes (less than 5 if the stylist doesn't like kids, even the well behaved ones) to trim this guy up really nice, he sits perfectly still and says the electric clippers tickle.

A couple nights ago Nick thought he'd give the haircutting gig a go, and while not a professional job, it did turn out pretty good (if you don't look too closely). And it saved us 13 bucks!

Anyone ever tried the flowbee? Weird.

Oh, and Happy 2 1/2 year Birthday today, EC! (Thanks for the reminder, Beth!)

Month 7

Alec, you are a big chunky ball of lovin'! This past month you've grown bigger, happier, stronger and even more curious of the world around you. You are a major grabber, anything that isn't nailed down ends up in your mouth. You're a rolly polly, you nap beautifully though you could use some help in the nighttime sleep department, and you got your first haircut compliments of your mom and dad.

Happy 7 Months big guy!

Bathtub Fun

This is the first time I put these guys in the bathtub together, with Alec's sensitive skin issues I've always just found it easier to bathe him in the kitchen sink, but they had fun together.

Perfect night for a fire

The weather was gorgeous Thursday evening so we thought it a good idea to do something outside. Nick suggested we start up the fire pit and roast marshmallows, and since I seriously cannot say no to something sweet, I agreed!

Yes, they are wearing the same exact thing. By accident.

Alec was super chill in his bouncy seat, he still enjoys being the spectator.

After eating a few marshmallows (ok, ok...I had several), we wondered what we could make for dinner utilizing the fire. I suggested just eating more marshmallows but my idea was quickly shot down. So we had the next best bonfire food. Hot dogs.
