Grandma's, Cousin, Swimming and LEGO's!

The boys and I made a quick weekend trip to Grandma and Grandpa's a couple weekends ago.  One of my friends from Wichita had a baby and I wanted to give him a squeeze, so off we went!

He's the cutest little baby, slept in my arms the entire time except for one quick peek at me to smile.  I asked Nick if we could have just one more but he shot me down without hesitating.  It was worth a try. Truth be told, I don't know I'm cut out for three kids either so I'll get my fill via my friend's babies!

After I got my cuddles in, a few of us girls went out for dinner.  Love getting together with them, there's a lot of laughing and catching up going on.

Back at the farm, the boys soaked up every minute of it.  Alec carried Molly around, played with all sorts of toys and dug in the sandbox.  Ethan did much of the same, he and Dakota played "school" a lot so I'm sure he came home a little smarter!

We stopped off in El Dorado to see Andrew on our way back home.  Oh my goodness, he is growing!  Not quite taller than me but maybe next time I see him he will be.

The boys started swim lessons last week, here they are getting ready to jump in.

For Ethan's birthday he got his first Lego set and has shown a lot of interest in building things since.  He's improved a lot over the past couple months and can now follow the instructions with little help.  Thankfully, Nick has (some) patience and can lay there and build things with him.  I try hard, but I just can't get into them.  You should see the floor when he's playing, I'm not joking when I say there are over 500 pieces scattered.  My brain just explodes.

But here's the little builder, showing off his helicopter.  Maybe Legoland might be a tad more fun for the boys this year?!

Bonus Picture: we trimmed a tree by the street and had the boys haul the branches away!  They didn't even bill us.  Love these guys!

Six Years

We celebrated our six year anniversary the first week of September, and celebrated by enjoying a lovely dinner out and a couple drinks after.

Must've been after the drinks. Arrrrgggg!

His First Book "Airplane Wonders How to Fly"

Ethan got an idea to write a book one afternoon so we both sat down at the table and got started.  The entire concept was his own and I simply helped to spell the words.  He said it's about bullying.  I plan on keeping it forever of course, but thought a digital image would be a good backup too.

He really, really wants to take his book into a library so that other kids can read it.  I told him there were a lot of steps involved in getting a book published and thought it'd be fun to listen to a kid's author sometime, so we're going to see what we can find in our area.  He's doing great with writing and is getting better each day.  We've been working on sounding words out and he's been picking that up quickly.  He'll definitely be ready for kindergarten next year.

"Airplane Wonders How to Fly" (Title)
"You're too small to fly high like me," said Heli.

Jet said, "Don't listen to Heli, he's just pretending."
"Don't say that to little airplane."

"Big Job Big Airplane," said Heli.

(the back of the book shows his other books for sale)

The boys and I spent this past weekend at my parent's house and after the boys were asleep I went through an old box of pictures.  I love looking back and remembering things I'd completely forgotten about.  Seeing how everyone in our family has grown up and changed over the years sometimes blows my mind! For the record, my mom could rock a pair of daisy dukes like no one's business!

Anyway, I came across a picture of me and couldn't help but see Alec right away.  It's the shy and reserved expression I see on his face a lot, especially when he's around people he doesn't know. I guess we share more than just our green eyes.
